Artist Statement
I understood the power of imagery from a very young age but, even as a child, the awareness that Art is a craft which requires knowledge of techniques and materials was clear to me. I studied for a Bachelor of Fine Arts (1991-1995) and a Master of Time Based Media plus Electronic Imaging (1995-1996) with a focus on gaining technical information that I do not think I would have had access to had I only been keen on style or individual expression. I was fortunate and was admitted to both degree programmes with full entrance scholarships based on my portfolios and grades. Discovering different tools, processes and perspectives, colour combinations and origins, formal principles that govern creativity as well as the context of pictorial representation and meaning have helped me develop as a visual artist.
This website is a window to some of the artwork I have made as part of my career - for me, freedom is not given to us, it is something we earn or win through effort and study. I am not always an artist and I am not always free.
